Thanks to the generous monetary donation from the Friends of the Public Library of Johnston County and Smithfield, the library is excited to announce the addition of 113 new children’s Wonderbooks and 13 adult titles to our collection. “Wonderbooks” are interactive read-along books that combine a traditional print format with a ready-to-play audiobook player permanently attached inside the front cover, making this contribution one that will significantly enhance access to reading materials for patrons of all ages and abilities.
The 113 children’s Wonderbooks cover a variety of genres and topics, including picture books, easy readers, and chapter books. This format has proven to be very popular with young children. However, the addition of adult Wonderbooks marks a new chapter in accessibility at the Public Library of Johnston County & Smithfield, expanding the appeal to include those who enjoy listening to books on the go, are challenged with visual impairments, or are just looking for a new way to enjoy literature.
“This donation will have a lasting, positive impact on our community. The Wonderbook format makes reading more accessible and fun, and now more library patrons will get to enjoy them,” said Billie Lawson, Friends of the Public Library of Johnston County & Smithfield Chair.
